Making an attempt to escape the smoke from this week's fires in southern California, we fled to the mountains. Joined by the first professor for a hike, we arrived at Manker Flats and set out at 7:45. Conveniently, Professor Yuille had made the trek to the top of Mount Baldy 5 previous times and was able to lead the rest of us through the winding paths of the Mount Baldy trails.

The first 2-3 miles took a brief hour, then the altitude kicked in. The remaining 2-3 miles to the top
took an additional 2 hours. Upon arrival, the wind was blowing but the view was spectacular. We
hastily took in the scenary, drank some water, and then made our way quickly down the ridge. Some were
more eager than others to reach a covered area.
